As the wind blows 'cross these prairie lands of late, seems like ever'one and they kin wants to compare ev'ry band to Radiohead. So be it, then—as Coldplay is the Radiohead for people who listen to Sting, Brothers Past is the Radiohead for people who listen to Phish.

Local boys done good, Brothers Past grace the Friday night World Cafe Live stage with a light show that's guaranteed to rock your socks off, accompanied by a much more than appropriate level of musicianship. Although they spent their residency years among the jam-band elite, Brothers Past earned their doctorate espousing a passion for songcrafting that constantly eclipsed the pretenders in a suddenly crowded genre. And just as quickly as the jam-band scene embraced BP, the band discovered the beauty of musical metamorphosis.

This, my friends, is the factor that bridges the chasm separating the good bands from greatness in the annals of music history. Radiohead made us endure Pablo Honey before delivering the goods with Kid A. U2 released The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby within four years of each other, and for god's sake, look at the Beastie Boys! On the same token, Brothers Past have progressed from placating Phish burnouts at Rex's in West Chester, circa 1998, to the rocktronica bliss of their latest effort This Feeling's Called Goodbye.

Take note now, young'uns, 'cause these boys are staring down a bright, bright arena-fueled future. (Joshua Valocchi)
