Set the way-back phaser to 1989, and gaze across the bleak musical landscape of pre-Marah Philadelphia. The national scene’s looking none-too-bright either as Uncle Tupelo are still formulating the songs that would define the No Depression movement.

Enter Neil Drucker, an unassuming independent record dealer with a dream in sound. What began as a labor of love with a single release from Philly’s Flight of Mavis blossomed into one of the premier bastions of the alt-country movement. Over the years the label has been home to a slew of local luminaries including the Low Road, Buzz Zeemer and Frog Holler.

Sadly, Saturday’s showcase marks the final chapter of the Record Cellar story. Parting is such sweet sorrow. (Joshua Valocchi)
