Detroit lacks a respectable football team, a burgeoning job market and the ability to avoid being the butt of American city jokes.

But one constant source of Motor City pride (besides hockey, natch) is music.

From Motown to dirty garage rock to Detroit house, Rock City casts a shadow so tall even Kid Rock couldn’t sully its reputation.

Rarely, though, is D-Town referenced in discussions of country rock.

Times change. The Deadstring Brothers’ whiskey-drenched blend of Exile-era Stones and ragged nods to Gram Parsons is one of the strongest offerings of twangy Americana in years.

If you missed the first coming of the Outlaws in the mid-’70s, here’s your chance to witness the movement’s resurrection in real time. (Joshua Valocchi)
