OkayPlayer Sundays

Sun., Sept. 5, 8pm. $10-$12. Monthly. Grape Street Philadelphia, 4100 Main St., Manayunk. 215.483.7084. www.grapestreet.com

The hip-hop hawkers at OkayPlayer team up with Philly-based groove merchants Square Biz and Newtron Entertain-ment to launch a tasty takeover of the Grape Street this Sunday, fielding a dizzying lineup of local luminaries and national names.

The inaugural installment of the monthly OkayPlayer Sundays at the Grape will serve as the official release party for This Week, the second full-length from hip-hop's new first lady, Jean Grae.

Joining Grae on the Grape's main stage, Dice Raw takes the kids to task as he spits his lyrics of fury while Scratch dazes and amazes with his otherworldly beat-boxing skills. Hometown hero Last Emperor is on the bill as well, making early arrival mandatory.

The party will spill out to all corners of GSP, with DJs Mike Nyce and Adam Bomb manning the decks and Rafik hosting a side-stage showcase featuring Bohemian Fifth and Cirius B, among others. Multimedia maven Stacey of Square Biz will handle the artsy side of things, and the Puma and Ubiq crews will be on hand to shower the crowd with plenty of love and free swag.

Outdoor Extravaganza & Big Daddy Kane Birthday Bash

Sun., Sept. 5, 8pm. $20. Eighth and Market sts. 267.688.2020. www.jlwentertainment.com

It's unlikely that Big Daddy Kane will be attending many of this holiday weekend's block parties. In fact, the smart money's on just one, and it's the Outdoor Extravaganza & Big Daddy Kane Birthday Bash block party.

That's right, y'all--the Smooth Operator himself will be kickin' it old-school this weekend as he plays the role of host at his own birthday party. Arguably the most dominant and influential figure of rap's heyday in the late '80s, BDK will be in Philly to celebrate--and you better damn well believe there ain't no half- steppin' at this affair.

In typical Kane fashion, he's buying apple martinis for the first 150 ladies at the party. Dwight's Southern Bar-B-Que will be handling eats and DJ Grim will keep the heads noddin' until the King of Bling is coerced to take to the stage and rattle off an old chestnut or two. Long live the Kane! (J.V.)
