Despite landing her latest effort, This Week, on more than a few year-end top 10 lists, Jean Grae still seems to be standing in the shadows of too many of her lesser male counterparts--and that's a damn shame.
That's not to say her star isn't on the rise--rumors abound that she was recently informally invited to join the legendary Roots crew--but the fact that she's constantly eclipsed by far less talented MCs is both sad and silly.
From the fiery spit storm she rained down upon several tracks on the Herbaliser's Blow Your Headphones to the finesse with which she flips phrases on her various solo efforts, Grae spans the spectrum of verbal wordplay with inimitable style and flow. Unabashedly aggressive onstage, yet profoundly introspective on wax, Jean Grae is the original article.
