Buckethead's propensity toward the absurd truly knows no bounds. An entertainer in the spirit of the uber-bizarre Sun Ra--who even on his deathbed held firm his claims of being a native of Saturn--Buckethead sports an inverted KFC pail on his head and dons a white Kabuki masque for every performance.
Given his considerable height (about 7 feet with the bucket) and his spontaneous onstage displays of nunchaku proficiency and his mastery of the robot dance, Buckethead commands a stunning stage presence.
Like Sun Ra, though, Buckethead knows the secret to keeping gimmicks fresh is to back them up with indisputable chops.
His shredding guitar style does that and then some. Throw Primus drummer Brain into the mix, and Tuesday's show holds all the promise of an incendiary, no-holds-barred thrash-travaganza. (Joshua Valocchi)
