It’s no secret New Year’s Eve is amateurs’ night. Always has been, always will be.

While the amateur tag bodes well in the world of Internet porn, it spells potential disaster for those who’ve managed to make it this long without solid plans for Sunday night.

The majority of the city’s NYE parties go to great lengths to draw the local version of the bridge-and-tunnel crowd (read: New Jerseyans and Main Liners) for the evening. Thank God Bill Gat is around to play the role of Messiah, resurrecting the jaded as if y’all were Lazarus.

Securing a seriously clandestine venue, Gat offers a utopian refuge with his shindig at the Mask and Wig. Seriously, now—who can say they’ve rung in the new year with a toast underneath a moose antler chandelier?

Disregarding the beauty and historical value of the venue, you simply can’t deny the cathartic beats the slew of scheduled DJs will be a-droppin’. This one’s worth getting up all Thriller-style for, ’cause they ain’t leavin’ till 6 in the mornin’ (well, actually 7, but that totally ruins the Snoop/Dre reference). (J.V.)
