From laying the foundation for gangsta rap with Boogie Down Productions’ debut Criminal Minded to challenging common notions regarding rap’s responsibilities toward urban youth, Parker personifies enigmatic schizophrenia.
One of the first hip-hoppers to openly embrace the opportunity to use his music and status to educate his mostly black audience, KRS-One is at once the industry’s hero and scapegoat.
